Asiaweek OnLine is a good source of news and feature stories about the Philippines - probably because many senior editors and writers happen to be Filipino. This site contains their listing of "20 Great Asians" who have greatly affected the course of contemporary Asian history. Included in the list are three Filipinos - Ninoy Aquino, Rodolfo Aquino (IRRI scientist), and Ferdinand Marcos.
The Economist is a surprisingly excellent source of technology surveys. Here is a very good introduction to the Net, called "The Accidental Superhighway" for people who need a quick overview of the various issues involved. There's also a good article on the state of Global Telecommunications in the 90's called "The Death of Distance". Highly recommended!
